Scrum Training Overview

Next Training Cohort Starts May 29th 2024

Skills Acquired

During Scrum training, participants acquire a diverse set of skills that are essential for effective collaboration, project management, and problem-solving in Agile environments. Some of the key skills acquired during Scrum training include:

  • Team Collaboration: Scrum emphasises teamwork and collaboration. Participants learn how to work closely with team members, share knowledge, and communicate effectively within a team.

  • Agile Principles: Participants gain a deep understanding of agile principles, including iterative development, continuous feedback, and adapting to change. They learn how these principles can be applied to improve project outcomes.

  • Scrum Framework: Participants become proficient in understanding and implementing the Scrum framework, including Scrum roles (Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Development Team), events (Sprint, Daily Standup, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective), and artefacts (Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Increment).

  • Product Backlog Refinement: Participants learn how to maintain a well-defined and prioritised Product Backlog. They acquire skills to break down user stories, estimate effort, and ensure that the backlog items are ready for sprint planning.

  • Sprint Planning: Scrum training teaches participants how to plan Sprints effectively. This includes selecting items from the Product Backlog, estimating the effort required, and setting achievable sprint goals.

  • Daily Standup Facilitation: Participants acquire skills to facilitate Daily Standup meetings, ensuring that team members provide updates, discuss challenges, and align their work towards the Sprint Goal.

  • Sprint Review: Participants learn how to conduct Sprint Review meetings, where the team demonstrates the completed work to stakeholders and receives feedback for further improvements.

  • Sprint Retrospective: Scrum training equips participants with skills to facilitate retrospectives, helping the team reflect on their processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes in the next Sprint.

  • Problem-Solving: Scrum training emphasises continuous improvement. Participants develop problem-solving skills by addressing impediments, resolving conflicts, and finding innovative solutions to challenges faced during the project.

  • Servant Leadership: Scrum Masters, in particular, learn the art of servant leadership, where they focus on serving the team, removing impediments, and enabling the team's success rather than exercising traditional command and control.

  • Metrics and Progress Tracking: Participants learn how to use metrics like burndown charts, velocity, and cumulative flow diagrams to track the progress of the project and make data-driven decisions.

  • Customer Collaboration: Scrum emphasises regular collaboration with customers and stakeholders. Participants learn how to engage stakeholders effectively, gather feedback, and align the product development with customer needs and expectations.
